About Me:
My name is Nienke (say: Ninka). I am originally from Amsterdam and moved to the USA in 2003 with my husband who grew up in the SF Bay Area. I have two awesome sons, Max (11) and Julian (9). For many years I worked as a web developer / programmer.
Before the pandemic I was working as a Maker Instructor and Coding Teacher at John Gill / Orion (k-5). I also volunteered at the school my kids go to in Pacifica (k-8). I introduced students in grades K - 8 to a variety of computer programs and robotics like: Scratch Jr, Scratch, MakeCode for Micro:bit, Code.org courses, CodeHS courses, Lego WeDo, Kibo Robot, Hummingbird, Snap!.
This is my first year at Kennedy teaching the STEM Exploratory Wheel Elective. In my class we will be learning about Computer Science and STEM. Every week we do hands-on activities on block days.
When I am not at Kennedy, I am often found at the ice rink in SF, watching my sons play ice hockey. I am the Team Manager for the SF Sabercats 12U (Team 2). Instead of yoga, I relax by building Lego sets or playing with various robotics/STEM kits.
I hope to inspire your kids to be creative and unstoppable. They can do anything if they put their mind to it and believe in themselves.
