About Me:
Welcome to Sixth Grade at Kennedy Middle School! My name is Liya Cao and I will be your child’s sixth grade Mandarin Immersion teacher. I am truly excited and honored that you have entrusted me with your child’s educational achievements. It is a privilege that will not be taken lightly. Together, we will learn and grow while never forgetting to have fun.
I would like to share with you about myself. This is my first year teaching at Kennedy Middle School and I am really excited to join this team! I love being a Chinese teacher. I graduated from Ludong University (Shandong Province, China) with a Master’s degree in teaching Chinese as a second language. Then I taught students Chinese Language and Culture for two years in South Korea. After moving to the US, I taught middle school students Chinese language and culture for three years in Kentucky before coming to San Francisco. In addition to my middle school teaching experience, I have been an immersion Chinese teacher in Presidio Knolls Elementary school and Yu Ming Charter School in Chinese, Math and Social Study. Through those experiences, I discovered how much I love opportunities to integrate language, culture, math and social study. I have the California Chinese Subject Teaching Credential, California Multiple Subjects Credential, English Learner Authorization and BCLAD.
I am looking forward to opportunities to inspire and be inspired by your children. Working together, asking questions, and understanding each other. Creating a learning space that is safe, warm, and loving. I welcome and expect mistakes. I value the process and the effort. I believe that in schools, there needs to be a space for every learner, and that individual effort and hard work should be celebrated by students and teachers. I also believe that respect is the essential ingredient for healthy social interactions among all members of our community.
