Our Newcomer Academy
The Kennedy Middle School Newcomer Academy has been in existence since 2014 serving Spanish speaking 6-8 grade students who have been in the US Schools for two years or less. The Newcomer Academy provides:
- (1) a safe and thriving school environment
- (2) high-quality instruction
- (3) the social and emotional support needed for Newcomer students and their families or guardians
Currently, the Newcomer students are enrolled in two content courses taught in Spanish, Science and Social Science, core classes taught in English with grade-level peers for Language Arts and Mathematics, an intensive Designated English Language Development course designed to meet the academic and language demands of Newcomer students, and an elective class with grade-level peers. Family members also receive a variety of supports as needed.
